How it works
The annual cost of small recurring bills
Subscriptions are designed to feel small. A $9.99 monthly charge sounds trivial, but multiplied by 12 it is $120 — and a typical household now carries many of them: streaming, cloud storage, software, gym, news, app subscriptions, and memberships.
The psychology works against the consumer: monthly framing hides the annual total. Converting every charge to its yearly equivalent and summing them is the single most effective way to see what you are actually paying — and to decide what to cancel.
- Monthly × 12 reveals the true annual cost
- Introductory discounts usually reset after 12 months — set a reminder to review
- Annual plans often save 15–20% vs. monthly if you actually use the service
How this is calculated
- Formula:
- Annual cost = monthly cost × 12 (or weekly × 52, or yearly × 1). Total across all subscriptions gives recurring annual spend.
- Applies to:
- No currency or jurisdiction assumed; rates are the prices you enter.
This tool performs arithmetic on the prices you enter — it does not account for taxes, promotional pricing that expires, currency conversion, or rate changes. Recurring charges may increase without notice. For reference only; not financial, accounting, or budgeting advice. Verify all current prices and billing cycles against your bank and credit-card statements.
